The market boom of the late ’90s made wealthy folk out of those who held large stock positions in their own firms, especially if those firms were tech companies or dot-coms. Most advisers have at least one client who has a substantial holding in his own company, is still bullish on the stock, and, for tax reasons, doesn’t want to sell it€”but wants to diversify his portfolio.
